In the morning
when everything is still black
and I am flying along the bridge to the 61
the city lights are twinkling and shiny and pretty
like small, jeweled silver and copper insects burning in a secret sea of black trees
I imagine people warm and safe, sleeping in their beds
and then I imagine myself standing on the bridge
with the stars settled and floating in a fluffy darkness all below me and all 'round
it makes me want to scoop them up in my hands
and like a child, greedily put them up very close to my face
and eye them each like little golden candies too good to eat right away.
